How to Use Tooth Mousse & Tooth Mousse Plus

Why was this recommended?

Tooth Mousse and Tooth Mousse Plus strengthen enamel, reduce sensitivity, reverse early enamel changes, and protect teeth during orthodontic treatment. They are often recommended for patients with early decay, white-spot lesions, sensitivity, dry mouth, acid erosion, or higher risk of demineralisation.

🧪 What is CPP-ACP and how does it work?

The active ingredient in Tooth Mousse is CPP-ACP:

CPP = Casein Phosphopeptide

A peptide derived from milk protein (casein).

ACP = Amorphous Calcium Phosphate

A bio-available, highly soluble form of calcium and phosphate ions.

How CPP-ACP protects your teeth?

CPP-ACP:

1. Binds to the tooth surface, plaque, and soft tissues, delivering calcium & phosphate where needed.

2. Neutralises acids in the mouth.

3. Promotes remineralisation of weakened enamel.

4. Can help reverse early white-spot lesions.

5. Reduces sensitivity by strengthening enamel.

In Tooth Mousse Plus, an additional 900 ppm fluoride works with calcium & phosphate to form fluorapatite, which is stronger and more acid-resistant.

Differences Between Tooth Mousse & Tooth Mousse Plus

Tooth Mousse (original, non-fluoride)

• Contains CPP-ACP only

• NO fluoride

• CANNOT be used as toothpaste

• Does not protect against cavities on its own

• Must always be used as an adjunct, after brushing with a fluoridated toothpaste

• Helps sensitivity, white-spot lesions, and enamel support — but never replaces daily fluoride toothpaste

Tooth Mousse Plus (900 ppm fluoride)

• Contains CPP-ACP + 900 ppm fluoride

• Fluoride helps form fluorapatite

• May be used short-term as a toothpaste alternative, under specific conditions (see below)

• Manufacturer guidance:

  – Not for children under 6 years

  – Avoid overnight use under 12 years

How to brush first? *important

Before using Tooth Mousse or Tooth Mousse Plus, brush with a fluoridated toothpaste:

• Adults: 1450–1650 ppm fluoride

• Children 2–6 years: 1000 ppm fluoride (pea-sized amount)

Use the Bass Technique:

1. Hold brush at a 45° angle toward the gumline

2. Use small, gentle vibrating motions

3. Clean along the gum–tooth junction

4. Brush for 2 minutes

5. Spit but do not rinse

Important allergy warning:

Tooth Mousse and Tooth Mousse Plus are derived from milk protein (casein). Although the manufacturer reports no measurable lactose is present and it is generally safe for people with lactose intolerance, you must NOT use this product if you have:

• A known milk protein allergy (casein/whey)

• A history of serious allergic reactions to dairy

If unsure, please consult your dentist or doctor before using.

When Tooth Mousse Plus may be used as a temporary toothpaste alternative

Tooth Mousse Plus contains 900 ppm fluoride, which is below the ADA-recommended ≥1,000 ppm fluoride for children’s toothpaste. Because of this, it should not be used as a long-term daily replacement for regular fluoride toothpaste.

However, it may be used short-term in situations such as:

• Children who dislike mint or regular toothpaste flavours

• Children with sensory sensitivities or oral aversion

• Children who gag easily on foaming toothpaste

• Children undergoing dental treatment where strong flavours cause discomfort

• Situations where regular toothpaste is not tolerated temporarily

If used as toothpaste, it must:

• Be fully supervised by an adult

• Only be used if the child can reliably spit and not swallow

• Be strictly temporary

• Be replaced with a standard ≥1,000 ppm fluoride toothpaste as soon as tolerated

Manufacturer cautions:

• Not recommended for children under 6

• Avoid overnight use under 12

• Not intended for long-term replacement of fluoride toothpaste

Follow your dentist’s instructions

Your dentist may advise Tooth Mousse for:

• Nightly use

• Orthodontic protection

• Short-term sensitivity relief

• High-risk periods
