Please read the below Post Operative Instructions for Deep Cleaning and follow all the precautions during the recovery period.

Immediate Care

1. Pain and Discomfort: Some discomfort or sensitivity is normal after a deep cleaning. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage any pain. Follow the instructions on the medication’s label or as prescribed by your dentist.

2. Numbness: If local anesthesia was used, your mouth might remain numb for a few hours after the procedure. Avoid chewing until the numbness has completely worn off to prevent accidental injury.

Eating and Drinking

1. Soft Diet: Stick to a soft diet for the first 24-48 hours. Avoid foods that are crunchy, spicy, acidic, or extremely hot or cold.

2. Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and help keep your mouth clean.

Oral Hygiene

1. Brushing and Flossing: Continue with your regular oral hygiene routine, but be gentle around the treated areas. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and be cautious while flossing to avoid irritating your gums.

2. Rinsing: Rinse your mouth with a mild saltwater solution (1/2 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water) 2-3 times a day to help keep the area clean and reduce inflammation.

3. Antimicrobial Mouthwash: If prescribed, use the antimicrobial mouthwash as directed to help control bacterial growth and promote healing.

Sensitivity

1. Temperature Sensitivity: You may experience sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages. This is normal and should subside over time. Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth to help alleviate this discomfort.

2. Avoid Irritants: Refrain from using tobacco products and consuming alcohol for at least 48 hours, as these can irritate your gums and slow the healing process.

Activity and Rest

1. Rest: Rest for the remainder of the day after your procedure. Avoid strenuous activities for at least 24 hours.

2. Sleeping Position: Elevate your head with an extra pillow while sleeping to help reduce any swelling or discomfort.

Follow-Up Care

1. Monitoring Healing: Keep an eye on the treated areas for any signs of infection or unusual symptoms.

2. Scheduled Appointments: Attend all follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress and receive any additional treatments that may be necessary.
