Why your dentist recommended this?

Kenalog in Orabase is commonly used to treat:

– Mouth ulcers (aphthous ulcers / canker sores)

– Traumatic ulcers (from biting or sharp teeth)

– Ulcers or irritation from braces

– Inflamed or painful soft tissues

Triamcinolone acetonide is a medium‑strength topical corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, calms immune response, decreases pain, speeds healing, and shortens ulcer duration.

What is Orabase?

Orabase is an adhesive protective paste (gelatin, pectin, CMC) that:

– Adheres to moist oral surfaces

– Forms a long‑lasting protective barrier

– Shields ulcers from irritation

– Helps the steroid stay in contact longer

– Provides immediate soothing

– Allows slow, effective absorption

How to apply

1. Gently dry the ulcer.

2. Apply a pea‑sized amount.

3. Press — do not rub.

4. Use 3–4 times per day, especially after meals and before bed.

5. Avoid eating/drinking for 30 minutes after use.

Duration

– Use until healed (typically 3–5 days; max 10–14 days).

– Stop immediately when the ulcer resolves.

– Not for long‑term or preventative use.

Safety

Do NOT use for:

– Fungal infections

– Viral ulcers

– Steroid allergy

– Unexplained white patches

– Paediatric safety not established.

– Children more susceptible to steroid side‑effects.
