What to expect?
Treatment starts with a consultation and imaging to assess your jawbone and plan the implant. The post is then placed surgically into the jaw. A healing period of roughly three to six months follows, while the bone integrates with the implant. Once it has healed, your dentist fits a custom-made crown or restoration. We use modern imaging and a careful, comfort-focused approach at every step. Discomfort varies from person to person, and we do what we can to keep you comfortable: local anaesthetic during the procedure, and sedation or sleep dentistry options for patients who feel anxious. Some tenderness or swelling afterwards is normal and usually settles within a few days.
Cost and health funds
The cost of implant treatment depends on what your consultation and imaging find. Your dentist gives you a quote before any treatment starts.
If you have extras cover, your fund may pay a benefit. What you get back depends on your level of cover.
We offer HICAPS on-the-spot claiming, so if you have private health extras cover you can claim at the practice on the day.

FAQs
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium that are placed into your jawbone to support a crown, bridge, or denture, replacing missing teeth with a natural look and function.
Am I suitable for dental implants?
Most healthy adults missing one or more teeth can be candidates, provided they have sufficient jawbone volume and healthy gums. If bone is lacking or gum disease present, preparatory treatments like bone grafting may be required.
What is the process?
The process involves an initial consultation, placing the implant into the jawbone, a healing period of 3–6 months for integration, and attaching a custom-made crown or restoration for a natural finish.
Is it painful and what is the recovery time?
Discomfort varies per person, but we’ll do our best to reduce it. During the dental implant procedure, an anaesthetic application can help make the treatment more comfortable. We use local anaesthetic during the procedure, and we offer sedation or sleep dentistry options for anxious patients. Some tenderness or swelling afterwards is normal and typically resolves within a few days. Full healing (integration of implant with bone) may take several months.
How should I care for my dental implants long-term?
Caring for implants is similar to caring for natural teeth: brush twice daily, floss or use interdental brushes, attend regular dental hygiene visits, and avoid smoking. Maintaining healthy gums and bone is key to implant longevity.
Are there any age limits for implants?
There’s no strict age limit for dental implants. Most adults with good overall health and sufficient jawbone can receive implants successfully. However, for younger patients, implants are usually delayed until jaw growth is complete (around 18–21 years old). Older adults, even in their 70s or 80s, can also be excellent candidates if bone and gum health are good.
Can dental implants fail?
Yes, although rare, implants can fail due to infection, poor healing, smoking, or insufficient bone integration. Early detection and proper care greatly improve long-term outcomes. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene help prevent implant failure.
