Dental treatments for children
When you visit Happy Dentistry, your child’s teeth and oral health are in caring, experienced hands. We offer a range of children’s dental services, including:
Sleep dentistry for children
For some children, longer or more complex treatment is easier with sleep dentistry. It can help an anxious child stay calm and comfortable, and allows several treatments to be completed in one visit rather than across multiple appointments.
Cost and health funds
What you pay depends on what your child’s check-up finds and the care they need. Your dentist gives you a quote before any treatment starts.
If you have extras cover, your fund may pay a benefit. What you get back depends on your level of cover.
We offer HICAPS on-the-spot claiming, so if you have private health extras cover you can claim at the practice on the day.

FAQs
What is children’s dentistry?
Children’s dentistry focuses on the oral health of infants, children and teenagers, including check-ups, preventive care and treatment that supports healthy smiles as your child grows.
When should my child first see a dentist?
The Australian Dental Association recommends your child’s first dental visit when their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday, to support healthy development and catch any early issues.
What happens during a child’s dental check-up?
A check-up usually includes a gentle examination of your child’s teeth, gums, bite and oral tissues, a check on growth and development, and a clean if needed. We’ll also talk you both through brushing and home care.
How often should my child visit the dentist?
Check-ups every six months are generally recommended, to monitor growth, help prevent cavities and build positive dental experiences for your child.
How can I prevent cavities in my child’s teeth?
Encourage twice-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste, limit sugary snacks and drinks, and keep up regular dental visits. We also offer fissure sealants to help protect your child’s teeth from decay.
What are fissure sealants for children?
Fissure sealants are protective coatings applied to the grooves of the back teeth, helping stop food and bacteria getting trapped and reducing the risk of cavities.
Is children’s dental treatment covered by Medicare or insurance?
Eligible children may receive dental care under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). We can help you check your child’s eligibility and assist with private health insurance claims.
How can I prepare my child for their dental visit?
Use positive language, read books about visiting the dentist, and avoid framing dental visits as a punishment. Our team will help your child feel comfortable and safe.
Why is children’s dentistry important?
Early dental visits help prevent decay, monitor oral development and build lifelong healthy habits, which can reduce the risk of dental anxiety later on.
