What is no gap?

No gap means you pay no added fees when your provider charges more than your health fund rate, as long as the fee sits within your cover’s limit. It works as a safety net, so a check-up or clean costs you nothing out of pocket. If you have valid extras cover and have not used your annual dental limit, you can have a gap free check-up and clean. Your health fund pays the fee when you present a valid card (with a magnetic strip for HICAPS).

FAQs

Is the gap free check-up and clean really free?

Yes, if you have eligible extras cover and have not used your annual dental limit. No gap means your health fund covers the full fee with nothing out of pocket. You present a valid health fund card with a magnetic strip for HICAPS, and the fund pays the practice directly.

What if I don’t have private health insurance?

You can take up the $238 new patient offer instead. It covers a professional clean, comprehensive exam, digital X-rays, a personalised treatment plan, an aesthetic consultation with a beauty nurse, and a gift bag. The offer is for new private patients without extras cover, and it isn’t stackable with the student discount.

What’s the difference between the gap free offer and the $238 new patient offer?

The gap free check-up and clean is for patients with eligible extras cover, who pay nothing out of pocket. The $238 new patient offer is a set-price option for new patients who don’t have extras cover. You use one or the other, not both.

How often should I have a check-up and clean?

As a general guide, many people have a check-up and clean every six to twelve months, though the right interval depends on your own oral health. Your dentist will advise what suits you at your appointment.

How long does a check-up and clean take?

Most check-up and clean appointments take around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on what your dentist finds and whether X-rays are needed.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

No special preparation is needed. If you’re claiming gap free, bring your health fund card (with a magnetic strip for HICAPS). Brushing beforehand is welcome but not essential.

What should I do after my appointment?

You can eat and drink as normal straight after a routine clean, unless your dentist advises otherwise. Keep up regular brushing and flossing, and book your next visit when it’s due.
