Immediate Care

1. Sensitivity: It is normal to experience some sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures after teeth whitening. This sensitivity typically subsides within a few days but may last up to two weeks. Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth to help alleviate discomfort.

2. Avoid Staining Foods and Beverages: For the first two weeks after whitening, avoid foods and beverages that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, berries, and foods with strong colors.

Diet and Lifestyle

1. Soft Diet: Stick to a soft diet for the first 24 hours. Choose foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, and other non-staining, easy-to-eat foods.

2. No Smoking: Avoid smoking or using tobacco products for at least two weeks to prevent staining and irritation.

Oral Hygiene

1. Brushing: Continue with your regular oral hygiene routine, but be gentle when brushing. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

2. Flossing: Floss daily to remove any food particles and plaque buildup between your teeth.

3. Rinsing: Avoid using mouthwash that contains alcohol for the first 24 hours, as it can increase sensitivity. Instead, rinse your mouth with lukewarm water.

Sensitivity Management

1. Desensitizing Gel: If prescribed or provided, apply the desensitizing gel to your teeth as directed to help manage sensitivity.

2. Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Avoid extremely hot or cold foods and drinks for the first two weeks to minimize sensitivity.

Follow-Up Care

1. Monitoring: Monitor your teeth for any signs of excessive sensitivity or unusual symptoms. If sensitivity persists beyond two weeks, contact our office.

2. Maintenance: To maintain your bright smile, practice good oral hygiene and consider using whitening toothpaste or touch-up whitening treatments as recommended by your dentist.

When to Call the Clinic

Contact our office immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Severe or persistent sensitivity that does not improve
- Signs of an allergic reaction to the whitening products (rash, itching, swelling)
- Any other unusual symptoms or concerns

Long-Term Care

1. Good Oral Hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene practices, including brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and using mouthwash to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

2. Regular Dental Check-Ups: Schedule regular dental check-ups to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy and to discuss any further whitening treatments if needed.

Tips for Prolonging Whitening Results

1. Avoid Staining Foods and Beverages: Limit your intake of coffee, tea, red wine, and other staining substances. If you do consume them, rinse your mouth with water afterward.

2. Use a Straw: When drinking beverages that can stain your teeth, use a straw to minimize contact with your teeth.

3. Touch-Up Treatments: Consider touch-up whitening treatments every 6-12 months or as recommended by your dentist to maintain your bright smile.
